The SELECTIVIDAD : What is this ?
Whether you are a Spanish or international student, your admission to a public university in Spain is conditional on passing the Selectividad test! One of the entrance tests to university studies in Spain, also called in Spanish “Puerbas de acceso a estudios universitarios”.
In fact, the Selectividad, or even the PCE exam, is a written test of at least 4 modules, intended for high school students wishing to access Spanish universities. On the other hand, this test can take up to 6 modules depending on the specialty you choose and your desire to increase your admission mark (nota de corte).
Preparation for the SELECTIVIDAD
Preparation for the PCE / Selectividad test lasts approximately one year. In addition to studying the Spanish language, you will also study Spanish history and literature and some specialty subjects.
For your Preparatory year of Selectividad, you have the choice of spending it in Spain or in your country of origin. In Morocco, there are several accredited centers to prepare your Selectividad. However, if you want to learn the Spanish language, and practice it of course, it is advisable to spend the preparatory year in Spain. This will allow you cultural and linguistic immersion and will make learning easier for you.
Conduct of the test SELECTIVIDAD
The Selectividad exam is made up of at least 4 written tests constituting the basic tests. However, you can add 2 specific tests depending on the chosen specialty. To this end, Selectividad takes place in two phases:
The common phase :
The first phase of Selectividad contains the obligatory basic modules. Whatever the specialty of study you have chosen, you must first pass these 4 tests:
-
Spanish language and literature
-
Foreign language (English, French, Italian or Portuguese)
-
History of Spain / History of philosophy
-
Test of the specialty you have chosen (Modalidad)
The specific phase:
The specific phase tests are optional. If you want to join a general study program, or you have good averages, the common phase tests will be enough.
On the other hand, if you wish to improve your final grade or wish to join selective specialty programs (example: medicine), you can take the specific phase tests. Indeed, at this phase, you have the right to take up to 4 specific tests, the subjects of which depend on the chosen specialty, but only the two highest results will be taken into consideration.
When to take the Selectividad access test?
The Selectividad tests are generally held in June (ordinary session). However, there is a second extraordinary session which takes place in September for people who did not pass it the first time.

The Spanish university system, steeped in rich history and cultural diversity, stands today as one of the main pillars of higher education in Europe.
Additionally, Spanish universities are often ranked in global rankings such as the QS World University Rankings and the Times Higher Education World University Rankings, which helps strengthen their international reputation.
However, let's look at the admission requirements:
THE EQUIVALENCE OF THE BACCALAUREATE
The first step is to convert the original baccalaureate into a diploma recognized by Spain.
This process generally takes 3 to 5 months, so it is recommended to initiate it before registration opens.
Without this equivalence, it is not possible to register for Spanish schools. Due to the non-recognition of the Moroccan baccalaureate by Spanish universities.
SELECTIVIDAD :
The SELECTIVIDAD exam, also known as the Higher Education Access Exam (EAU in Spanish), is the second crucial step for students in Spain. This is essentially the key to gaining access to the country's universities.
SELECTIVIDAD takes place at the end of the preparatory year, during which students follow intensive courses covering various subjects such as mathematics, Spanish language, literature, history, physics, chemistry, etc., depending on their desired field of study.
At the end of this year of preparation, candidates take an exam assessing their mastery in these different subjects. The results of these tests play a determining role in their admission to Spanish universities.
The fundamental objective of the Selectividad system is to guarantee equity and equal access to higher education in Spain by evaluating students' academic skills in a standardized way. For more information on SELECTIVIDAD, you can consult the section dedicated to the preparatory year.
YEARS OF STUDY :
In Spain, the higher education system generally consists of the following levels :
1. First university cycle (Grado): It is equivalent to an undergraduate degree similar to a bachelor's or license, with a typical duration of three to four years, depending on the field of study.
2. Second university cycle (Máster): Once the Grado has been obtained, students can opt for a master's program (Máster). These programs are generally specialized and usually last one or two years.
3. Third cycle (Doctorado): The third cycle encompasses doctoral programs (Doctorado) which focus on advanced research and the writing of a doctoral thesis. Their duration can vary from three to five years.
It is essential to note that the duration of study may fluctuate depending on the field of study, university and specific program. In addition, certain professional or technical training courses may have different durations.
